Napping Is It Child’s Play or For All Ages?

Lately I have been particularly interested in personal wellness in particular the topic of rest or sleep.  Recently I have been struggling with a sore neck and shoulders that even creeps into my scalp and I think a lot of it is due to stress but noticed when I add extra rest to my schedule the pain eases and subsides more than it does without any extra rest at all.

Interestingly naps seem to be frowned on in our culture except for small children but recently I noticed that I have been go, go, go, for a couple of years not fitting in much me time and not even making any me time for myself and well at the start of this school year I was feeling run down again for the first time in a while.  The perception of someone who takes naps often is one that is lazy or lacking ambition and that simply is not true; many of our presidents have historically made napping part of their daily routine.

“A lot of high-profile companies are recognizing the benefits of power napping. . . . It’s like kindergarten all over again.”

To deal with my recent pain I  took some over the counter pills and  I also received some prescription meds but as I started taking care of myself and stopped putting so much extra stress on myself I realized I had time for a nap here and a nap there something amazing happened which is that I started feeling better much faster than I had been up to that point.

Currently I have better days than others but when I make time for rest it makes all the difference in the world.

So I have listed a couple of questions out for all of us to ponder but I must say I’m not giving up my naps now even if it is not a favorite american past time so you folks out there that are watching golf and football and snoozing in between well good for you!

What is it about naps that are so revitalizing?

Why do some people feel groggier after naps than others?

Why does my body fight napping sometimes?

Why is it so hard to make time for a 20 minute nap?

I personally prefer to find a quiet dark room for napping which is usually my bedroom and I just crawl into bed and set the timer for 20 to 30 minutes.  I don’t take really long naps because I want to sleep

Whether you are for or against naps really makes no difference what I can tell you for me I am unable to work full-time, come home and work in the garden and be able to run around all weekend going to my daughter’s shows and my son’s football games etc… without getting some good rest so slowly but surely I am trying to add more rest into my life.

I wish you all a beautiful week and I don’t know about your weather but we are having some hot weather due to a tropical system headed our way she was at one point called Tropical Storm Karen but I think she has fizzled out to a depression by now.  Sounds like Karen might have needed a nap but I am thankful as I am sure many others are that she didn’t get one 😉

Fondly,
